How we review e-bikes

Our promise is simple: useful, honest advice, and complete transparency about how we reach it.

E-Bike Review is an independent editorial team covering electric bikes for UK riders. We are not owned by, funded by, or answerable to any bike manufacturer or retailer. This page explains how we research, how we score, how we make our money, and, just as importantly, what we do not do. If a review site will not tell you that last part, it is worth asking why.

What our verdicts are based on

Every review and ranking draws on three things: the manufacturer's published specifications, the UK regulations that govern electric bikes, and real owner feedback gathered from retailers, cycling forums and long-term reviews. We cross-check specs across sources rather than repeating a single product page, and we weigh what owners actually report against what the marketing claims. When the two disagree, we tell you.

What we do not do, and will not pretend to

We are honest about the limits of that method. We do not run a test laboratory, and we do not publish timed range figures, motor dyno numbers or measured braking distances that we have not produced ourselves. Where we have not ridden a bike, we say so plainly on the page. We never invent test data, mileage results or scores to look more authoritative than we are. A verdict here is an informed editorial judgment, not a lab report dressed up as one.

How we score

Our ratings are editorial scores out of five. They reflect value for money, the quality of the core components (motor, battery, sensor and brakes), how well a bike suits the job it is sold for, and the reliability signals we see from owners. A higher score means we think a bike is a stronger buy for its intended rider, not that it won a stopwatch test. We explain the reasoning in the verdict every time, so you can weigh our judgment against your own priorities.

How we make money, and why it never changes a verdict

The site is funded by affiliate commissions, and it may carry advertising in future. When you buy through a link on our site, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. No manufacturer or retailer can pay to change a ranking, raise a score or soften a verdict, and none of them see our reviews before we publish. If a bike we would earn commission on is the wrong choice for you, we will say so. You can read the detail on our affiliate disclosure page.

Keeping reviews current

E-bike prices, specifications and the law all change, sometimes several times a year. We date every page with its last update and revise reviews when a spec, price or regulation moves. Our UK e-bike law guide is the page we watch most closely, because getting the legal detail right matters more than anything else on the site.

Corrections, and how to reach us

We would rather be corrected than be wrong. If you own one of the bikes we cover, or you have spotted an error, email us at [email protected]. We read everything, and we fix mistakes quickly. You can find more ways to reach us on our contact page.
