Best Electric Bikes under £1000

Electric bikes can be such a worthwhile investment, whether for your health, leisure or even just shortening down your daily commute. The problem with electric bikes however is that they can also be extremely expensive, luckily, as electric bikes are becoming more and more popular there are more affordable options now on the market.

This is why we are going to compare and find out the best electric bikes for under £1000 that are currently on the market.

What will I get for under £1000?

Having a budget for an electric bicycle may mean that you will compromise on a few things such as; an aluminium frame rather than a carbon frame, mechanical disk brakes rather than hydraulic disc brakes, a rear/front hub motor rather than a mid-motor, battery power/charge may be lower and lastly there may be less accessories such as lights or mudguards that would normally be included in a more expensive ebike.

Nonetheless do not let these lower options deter you, as there are some awesome budget electric bikes on the market that give you the same assistance when riding as the more expensive ones, keeping you powered on the road for all your mountain biking or commutes!

Now let's get into the best electric bikes UK wise for under £1000.

I found when using the power assistance mode the bike it provided me enough help to get up any steep hills on my route and was comfortable to ride with. The battery gave me a huge amount of range and the charge stayed for large amount of time before it needed a full recharge.

Overall this Bikfun bike is very similar to the Ancheer in its specs and how it performs. This electric bike comes with a one year warranty incase you aren't happy with how it performs.

Riding the Ancheer Classic Black

Now we have gone over the specfication lets get to the important part- how it performs. After receiving this bike it was extremely easy to set up with the tool kit included and pretty much any beginner can be able to assemble it. I decided to test out this electric mountain bike on some more technical terrains so as I could get a feel for its power and assistance. When tackling hills and inclines the pedal assist surprisingly really made a difference along with the 250W motor, the bike overall handled the ride with no difficulties. The electric bike managed to take me on a ride of around 14 miles after a full charge which included steep hills and I was still left with at least 2 bars of charge upon returning making it a very good durable battery.

The overall feel of the bike considering the price really is shocking, it's one of the best bikes I have ridden out there for under the £1000 mark and I would 100% feel confident to take it out on daily commutes or long adventures. The only criticism to make would be the heaviness of the bike which is cause by the battery, but this doesn't effect the overall comfort of the electric bike which truly is incredible for the price.

Therefore we would mark this electric bike as number two for the best electric bikes for under £1000 due to its reliable battery, sleek design and ability to do adventure biking and commuting. Its Shimano gears are of the highest spec and variation compared to others on the list which means you can do much more with this bike for a fair price, however its lack of folding ability does mark it down slightly.

Pros

  • Removable battery.
  • 21 speed Shimano gear system.
  • LED lamp and horn.
  • Three working modes.
  • One year warranty.
  • Not expensive.
  • Tool kit included.

Cons

  • Weight is on the heavy side.
  • Can't be folded.

The Martes folding fat tyre e-bike is most recognised for its huge 4" tyres that give a good amount of stability to the bike making it suitable for all kind of outdoor environments. The brushless motor on this e-bike has a powerful 500W and 60Nm of torque making it suitable for the steepest of inclines, paired with a 15Ah 48V battery allowing you to ride long ranges and speeds of up to 30-40 km per hour. The large Kenda all purpose 4" tyres are of 20" height and have great bump absorption, at low levels the tyres can even handle sand and snow, joined with heavy alloy rims, this bike really is one of the best budget adventure e-bikes on the market.

Accessory wise the e-bike comes with rear cargo racks, LED energy saving headlights, a phone holder and horn. The weight of this bike comes in at 26 kg which is pretty heavy, but what you expect due to the size of the tyres. This e-bike also includes a 1 year warranty, however it must be noted this e-bike comes in at £1,099.00 so it's slightly over the asking price, but considering the motor and all the accessories- you can't complain!

Is the Martes Electric Folding Bike worth it?

I was super excited to test out this fat tyre bike due to its tyres and stability. When it came it needed to be assembled but it didn't take too long with right tools that were generously included. When taking this folding bike out for a ride you can notice how comfortable the Kenda tyres make the e-bike, I took it out on some pretty rough and stoney tracks and it handled the ride perfectly. The power from the motor took me up the steepest of inclines on my ride with no problem whatsoever. I only used level 3 when riding and felt like I was flying by everyone else, so you do need to be careful not to get too carried away when on your adventures. The LCD display was easy to use when riding and I felt safe and comfortable at all times compared to other e-bikes which can feel a little flimsy for this money.

Overall, this e-bike is great if your budget can stretch a little, you are truly getting more power, accessories and stability that a £2000 e-bike would have for half the price. If you are looking for a modern durable mountain e-bike then this would have to be top choice.

So, to conclude this places the Martes electric folding ebike as one of the best electric bikes out there for around the 1000 pound mark which is why it has to be number 3 on our list. If it wasn't for the price we would put it higher up, so if you have a little more to spend, then we would totally recommend buying this bike for your adventures. The only downfalls of this e-bike would be that the motor is over the legal allowance for e bikes in the UK and is very  heavy, but this what you expect for a large tyre bike like this. The bike may not be very suitable for commuting too but is a plus that it can be folded up neatly for storage purposes.

Pros

  • Large 4 inch tyres good for stability.
  • Folding ability.
  • Powerful 500W motor.
  • Quick charging time.
  • 1 year warranty.

The 6.5Ah lithium battery on this bike is built in and can last a good 3-4 hours after being fully charged. Three riding modes are included with this e-bike; pedal mode, moped mode and electric mode giving you smooth assistance when required.

The style of this bike is very unique compared to other electric bikes and has a folding frame built of aluminium alloy with a light weight of only 16.8 kg. The moped style of this bike means the wheel are very small coming in at only 12 inches which is perfect for folding up into your car or other storage. The design of this bike includes a red safety tail light and front/back disc brakes which makes it the perfect bike to use on night commutes. All main parts come with a 1 year warranty.

Putting the Ouix Electric Folding Bike to the test

I decided to test this specific e-bike out on a city road route as soon as I got it as it came ready assembled which was great. Immediately upon mounting the bike you can notice how smooth and lightweight the design is, a very different feel to a normal sturdy mountain bike but great for the city style. I decided to test this bike by using it for my daily commutes for a week and found it great, the motor provided me enough assistance when I needed it, although the angle of the bike took a little getting used to but it was perfect for some to and from short journeys.

Overall this a pretty simple and small e-bike, I wouldn't recommend taking this bike out on long or technical terrains but for short commutes this little e-bike would do the job very well for the best price available.

Therefore the Ouix electric folding e-bike comes at place number four on our list. This bike has a good amount of motor power but is over the legal amount allowed in the UK which means it would need some more licensing. The lightness of the frame is exceptional which make its the perfect portable powerful bicycle. For the best commuter bike under £1000 it deserves the number three spot on our list.

Pros

  • Lightweight.
  • Folding bike.
  • Powerful motor.
  • Tail-light included.
  • 1 year warranty.

Cons

  • Motor power is over legal UK limit.

ANCHEER 26" City Ebike Cruiser

We have another quality Ancheer bike here on the list however this e-bike is special for commuting rather than mountain biking. This Ancheer city cruiser bicycle electric wise has a high speed brushless 250W motor along with a large capacity removable 12.5Ah lithium ion battery, giving you long lasting power for your commutes and travels. A iron shockproof front fork also makes this e-bike extremely durable. The electric system on this bike includes; the best Shimano 7 speed gear system, front and rear mechanical disc brakes with premium grip spoke wheels.

Riding the Ancheer City Cruiser E-bike

I decided to test this bike out on my daily commutes to and from work and it really was the most perfect bicycle for this job. It came part assembled so putting it together wasn't too much of a fuss however you do need the right tools. It took me about 8 hours to get a full charge which yes isn't speedy but understandable due to the large capacity of the battery. The motor gave more than enough power to help me get up some steep hills but I did find the rough terrains made the bike slightly unstable, which again is understandable as it is aimed to be more of a commuter bike.

Overall the electric bicycle is well made as most Ancheer products are, however I do think that there are some cheaper bikes out there that can give you all these specs and include some extras such as tail lights which are useful for commuting, also the lack of the bike being able to fold up could of been better for storage. If you are looking for a reliable bike that won't let you down on your daily commute ride then this city cruiser bike by Ancheer would be the best electric bike choice for you.

So this places the Ancheer city cruiser e-bike in our number four spot as the next best commuter bike for under £1000. It's Shimano 7 gear system and adjustability makes it a great leisure bike with enough power from the motor to take the struggle out of your daily commutes.

Pros

  • Reliable Ancheer brand.
  • Shimano 7 gear system.
  • Removable battery.
  • Large capacity battery.
  • Adjustable design.

Cons

  • Not folding.
  • Extras such as tail lights not included.
  • Long charging time.

It also comes with; LED lights front wheel and rear wheel fitted, USB phone holder, power monitor, and speed control in the handlebar. Disc brakes are also fitted and a 12 tooth pedal gears system. The tyres on this bike are inflatable 16 inch shockproof tyres which are great for when it comes to more uneven roads.

Riding the FIIDO 16 inch folding bike

First impressions of this e-bike was how lightweight and convenient it is to travel with. It folds up so well and the lightness of it made me want to get in my car and have a long adventure with my new little bike. I took this bike out a couple of times on my local paths and roads and found it an overall decent riding experience, the motor gave me an sufficent amount of power and the charge lasted me a very long time. The tyres were good but may need replacing after some time if you were traveling on more rough terrains.

Overall this a great bike for the price and I would thoroughly recommend it to someone who's looking for a lightweight leisure bike, however for more heavy duty adventure trails, I would recommend one of the electric mountain bikes above.

Therefore the FIIDO D2 folding electric bike gets our number five spot. This is definitely the next best leisure bike for under £1000 due to its lightweight and compact folding ability. The extras that come with this bike are great too such as it's phone holder and LED lights. The only downside would be its lack of a removable battery.

Pros

  • Very lightweight.
  • Folding ability.
  • Legal in UK.
  • Shockproof tyres.

Cons

  • Non-removable battery.
  • Not for technical trails.

Gebuter Bicicletta Folding Moped Electric Bike

This Italian model Gebuter Bicicletta bike features a 250W brushless motor and a 36V 10 Ah battery which weighs only 2.5kg and can pull out for flexible charging. It has a maximum speed of 25km per hour and a long lasting power output of up to 80km electric moped mileage. The moped electric bike comes with three switchable riding modes; pure electric mode (good for commuting), human mode and electric assist mode.

The design of this moped bike is unique and boasts a 20inch lightweight frame with inflatable tyres that can easily handle bumpy roads. The pump is also stored and concealed in the tube underneath the saddle making it great to top up your tyres on a long commute if needed. This great little moped bike also stores very easily due to its ability to fold and comes in colours of black, grey and two shades of white. Gear wise this has the Shimano 6 speed shifting system installed.

Taking the Gebuter Bicicletta out for a ride

This moped style bike was easy to put together and the stylish grey model made it different to other commuter e-bikes I had tested previously. My first impressions was that the weight of the bike was pretty heavy which surprised me for its small design, and the lack of a removable battery was not ideal considering the price, however it seemed overall of good quality. Upon taking it out on the roads it handled most bumps very well and the pure electric mode halved down my normal commuting time which was excellent. The saddle and design of the bike was very comfortable to ride with, although I would be careful if you are very tall person as you may struggle to ride this moped comfortably. It was easy to put away in the shed after riding due to its folding ability and seems like a great little solid bike for short journeys.

This a pretty good moped bike for commuting and has a very unique/stylish design however for the price you could really get a bike that has much more high specs than this for commuting. Having non removable battery is a safety concern that might bother you when you leave your bike unatteneded.

Therefore the Italian Gebuter Bicicletta gets last place on our list. It's still a very decent electric bike for under £1000, but has a lower gear system than the other e-bikes in the line up along with its lack of removable battery meaning its took last place. This is still a great little moped bike and is very unique compared to others on the market.

Pros

  • Unique design.
  • Legal in UK.
  • Portable pump.
  • Lightweight.
  • Comes in variety of colours.
  • Folding ability.

Cons

  • Non-removable battery.
  • Basic gear system.
  • Could not handle technical terrians.

The Judgement

The overall winner to the best electric bike for under £1000 has to be Bikfun electric mountain bike, as an all rounder reliable electric bike which gives you everything you need for a comfortable bike but still within your budget. However if you are looking for an extreme mountain bike and you have a little more money to spend we would recommend the fat tyre Martes electric folding bike as this will get you up any kind of difficult terrains or inclines and has a great range for its battery.

For the best electric commuter bikes we would recommend the Ouix electric folding bike due to its lightweight frame and folding mechanism which makes it perfect for popping away after your daily commute, but if you are looking for reliable bike to use and have little more to spend then the Ancheer city bike cruiser is a no-fail runner up.

All these bikes can be found on amazon with prices and ratings

Therefore, the best electric bike for under £1000 is undoubtedly the Bikfun electric mountain bike.
