Millions of people have ditched their cars for their daily commute and are opting for cycling instead. This is fine if your commute is fairly short, but if you have a long commute to work every day then you might find all of that pedalling a little too much.
There is, however, an alternative in the form of the electric mountain bike. More popular than ever, electric mountain bikes are perfect for longer journeys because you can pedal for part of the journey and use the motor for the other part. Choosing your first electric mountain bike is not as straightforward as it sounds.
There are thousands of different models on the market right now from all different price ranges. To help you make a decision, we have tested and reviewed what we think are some of the best electric mountain bikes on the market right now. Please read on below for our verdict on the top 5.
Features: Aluminium Alloy Frame – Shimano Gears – 21 speeds – 15 – 30 Mile Range – 15mph Max Speed – 36v Lithium Ion Battery – 26 Inch Wheels – 27.9kg
The top spot on our list of the best electric mountain bikes goes to this model from ANCHEER. The E Bike market is quite new really, so there aren’t many well-established brands to choose from yet. Because of this, we didn’t know what to expect from this one, but we were definitely very impressed.
To start off with, it is beautifully designed. It looks sleek, stylish and very durable indeed. When we first took a closer look at all of the components of the bike, the one thing that really stood out for us was the quality of the aluminium alloy frame. It has definitely been built to last a long time.
Assembling this electric mountain bike was actually surprisingly easy. We only had to equip ourselves with some basic tools and we were able to get all of the components put together within an hour or so and we were ready to test out the bike. The first thing that we would like to talk about with this one is the battery.
It is important to remember that the battery itself is quite a heavy unit. This does add a little weight to the frame, but not too much and the frame still remains relatively lightweight. The battery is removable if you want to make the frame lighter still.
One thing that is definitely worth noting is how powerful the battery actually is. We were really surprised by the amount of life we got out of it, even when going uphill quite a lot. Riding this electric mountain bike is a very pleasant experience. The seat is very comfortable and the handlebar grips are too.
We had no trouble riding and operating the bike at all and were really impressed with the quality. The only negative aspect is that the instruction manual is quite confusing. However, we were able to find plenty of videos from ANCHEER on YouTube which were helpful.

Features: Aluminium Alloy Frame – Shimano Gears – 21 Speeds – 75 Mile Range – 15.5mph Max Speed – 48v Battery – 27.5 Inch Wheels – 28kg
Number 2 on our list is the electric mountain bike from NCM Moscow. Again, this isn’t a brand that we were familiar with, so we weren’t sure whether we would be impressed or not. Given the position that we have given this one, it is safe to say that we were very impressed indeed.
To start off with, we loved how sturdy and well put together the aluminium alloy frame is. It is incredibly durable and it feels like it is going to last a very long time. When it came to assembling the bike, we didn’t experience any difficulties at all. Like the last model on our list, we only needed basic tools.
When first trying to ride the bike, we were really happy to find that both the seat and the handlebar grips are incredibly comfortable to use. One thing that really impressed us with this electric mountain bike is the power of the acceleration. It really takes a lot of the work out of cycling.
Another thing that we really liked is the mile range that you get per charge. We found that we were able to get roughly 75 miles out of one charge which is incredibly impressive. In terms of negative aspects, the first is that this bike is very expensive. The other issue that we had is that there is no backlight on the LCD display. We did find that this made using the bike in the dark quite difficult. This aside, this is an e bike that we would definitely recommend.

Features: Aluminium Alloy Frame – Microshift Gears – 8 Speeds – 65-75km Range – 80-90kmh Max Speed – 72v Lithium Ion Battery – 18 Inch Wheels
The number 3 slot on our list of the best electric mountain bikes goes to this Stealth Bomber model. This one caught our eye immediately because of the unique design. What we really liked about this one is that it looks just like an off road motorbike.
This one came already assembled, so we were ready to test it out straight away. We have to say that we were really surprised by how comfortable this bike actually is. We had no trouble riding it with maximum comfort the whole time.
Something that really impressed us with this electric bike is the sheer amount of power that you get when you accelerate. Going up steep hills is no trouble at all with this one; it doesn’t struggle in the slightest. Although there are plenty of positive aspects that come with this bike, there are certainly some drawbacks that are worth noting.
First of all, this bike does not come with a cheap price tag. Secondly, there is the fact that there are several adjustments that would need to be made for this bike to be road legal. Aside from these two points, this is definitely an electric bike that we would recommend, especially if you are looking for something a little different.

Features: Aluminium Alloy Frame – Shimano Gears – 7 Speeds – 40-80km Range – 50kmh Max Speed – 48v Lithium Ion Battery – 26 Inch Wheels – 22kg
Number 4 on our list of the best electric mountain bikes goes to the Extrbici XF800.what really stood out for us with this one was the exceptional design. It really stands out as a stylish, modern bike that has been built to last for years to come.
When we first took a closer look at this electric mountain bike, the one thing that really surprised us was the weight of the frame. Given the high quality materials that it is made out of, we really expected it to be a lot heavier than it actually is. This makes riding even smoother.
With this bike, you get something that you don’t get with the others and that is the addition of fat tyres. These may look a little different to what you’re used to, but they certainly have their advantages. We were able to ride on many different surfaces with ease, including sand.
Another addition with this one is a USB port. We found this particularly useful for longer bike rides as we were able to charge a mobile phone whilst on the move which can be great if you use GPS for your bike rides. The only real downside with this one is that it is quite expensive, but it is certainly worth the extra money if you can afford it.

The final spot on our list of the best electric mountain bikes goes to this model from RICH BIT. Again, we hadn’t heard of this brand so we weren’t sure what to expect. There are certainly some drawbacks that are worth keeping in mind, but there are a lot of positive aspects too.
First of all, we were really pleased with the design. This bike has a really nice design and the frame is incredibly sturdy. Riding the bike was a fantastic experience and we were very impressed with the level of comfort. We were also surprised with the sheer amount of speeds that you get with this one.
Like the previous electric mountain bike on our list, the RICH BIT Men’s Ebike comes with the addition of fat tyres, which as we have already discussed are fantastic for riding on different terrains. As we mentioned, there are some drawbacks that are worth keeping in mind.
First of all, there is the fact that although the brakes work perfectly well, they could definitely do with being a little more sensitive than they are, especially at higher speeds. Another thing that we felt was that the quality of the pedals could be improved upon a little. Despite these flaws, we would still recommend this bike.
